Vision for Community Development (VCD), here after referred to as (NGO) is South Sudanese National Non-Governmental Organization operating in Upper Nile states of South Sudan. It was founded on the 15th of October 2003 by a group of Sudanese citizens with the aim of providing relief, rehabilitation, capacity and development choices to the communities in the Upper Nile region of South Sudan. VCD has field based offices in Ganyliel- Panyijar County in Unity State and maintains a liaison office in Nairobi. The organization is registered both in South Sudan and Kenya to work in South Sudan as a non-profit making non-government entity.
The Unity and Jonglei states of Upper Nile that are targeted by VCD have 9 and 11 counties respectively with an estimated population of 1.86 million people that is mix of indigenous ethic and sub-ethnic communities namely the Nuer. "Evidence shows that malnutrition, even in its milder forms, can increase the likelihood of mortality from a number of different disease entities and may be associated with up to 56 percent of all childhood mortality (Sanghvi et al, 1997) . This makes malnutrition one of the most important public health problems in South Sudan"
