Agriculture and Agro Forestry
The activity was developed to provide immediate live-saving assistance to meet urgent survival needs of the population of Jonglei County who have for long suffered from endemic conflict and whose situation was in 2006 exacerbated by floods and displacement occasioned by disarmament activities. The activity aimed to address food and NFl emergency needs of 20,000 vulnerable returnees and host community members in Jonglei States by improving their fish productive capacity and health through the provision of fishing inputs and NFIs, as well as related Public Health Hygiene Education
The sensitization of the people on matters of HIV/AIDS, Malaria, hygiene and sanitation and child health problems were addressed among the communities in Menime, Ganyiliel, Leer, Mayandit and Koch areas. Sometimes the trainers used forums such as addressing church congregation as happened during a cholera outbreak on issues of; the importance of hygiene as a tool to life and good health, sanitation, environment cleanliness, and dangers posed by stagnant and dirty water. Hygiene and sanitation education was delivered to 150 households and provision of mosquito nets to 1,100 households was also done.
Several advocacy meetings aimed at sensitizing the public on development issues have been held on Public Health Awareness. Distribution of medicines and items donated by the government and civil organizations working in the area, community discussions on how to make the community self sustaining in fishing, agriculture, child education and health have also been conducted.
